The M4 beckons

I will be in the car by ten-thirty.  I'll drive through the heatwaves of Swindon and Bristol, across the beautiful bridge into and through the swampy horror of Newport and the blandness of the new Cardiff bypass, until it all gradually fades down into the soft, shrugging and smiling oldness of Carmarthen, before it all dwindles into the road down from Red Roses into Wiseman's Bridge (careful down the hill, 4x4s whoosh up there as if it was the M4) - and then I'll find out - and this is the best bit - I'll find out whether the tide is in, or out, or halfway.

  1. So you don't have the App then. The tide is one of the very few things we can predict in these uncertain times.

  2. I don't want to spoil the anticipation but, if you get away on time & don't get held up, it'll be at 0.3 metres.
By happy coincidence today is one of the two biggest tidal ranges of the year. The other was on 20th March.
    Enjoy!

  3. When I lived in Lowestoft, I always knew whether it was spring tide or neap, and when it was high and low. Now, I need the app.

    Have a good time.

  4. Belated responses:

Rog - yes, we don't even know now where/when GMT is. But then, physicists aren't even sure they know what time is any more.

    Martin - thanks, it was.

Soaring - thanks for the spoiler alert. I didn't measure it precisely.

Z - so, pray, why do you need to know?

  5. I don't know today. But if I were going to the seaside, I would want to know whether I'd be able to paddle. In fact, I should be as aware of the tides as I am of the moon. It's part of life's rhythm and I miss living by tidal waters.
